Most of our bottles have a story, and to say this bottle is special to us would be putting it mildly. This past May, you may have noticed that we were closed on Cinco de Mayo for a "very special event". That event was the wedding of our owners, Tammy and Alex.
Now, let's go back to February of 2023. To celebrate Tammy's 30th birthday, Alex surpised Tammy with a trip of a lifetime to visit one of her favorite places, Paris, France. Tammy had a planned to show Alex all the reasons why she loved this city. One of the main places were to visit her favorite museum, the Musée d'Orsay. What she didn't know was that Alex as planning on proposing to her at the iconic Musée d'Orsay clock. What Alex didn't know was that there are 2 of the famous clock and they ended up grabbing a bite at the first clock in front of the museum cafe. By the time he realized there were 2 clocks and made their way to the iconic clock that everyone takes photos in front of, a security guard for the clock told them that the musuem was closed and it was time to go. As the guard was attemping to usher everyone out of the area, Alex ignored the guard and got down on one knee as Tammy was helping another visiter grab one last photo. The guard realized what was happening and allowed Alex a few extra minutes for Tammy to turn around and realize what was happening. Alex asked for her hand in marriage and Tammy said yes. It was the perfect moment for them.
To commemorate the engagement, Alex started to make this drink the moment they got back from France. You see, when Tammy first started this journey at Honey Pot and with Alex, her favorite drink was Bruiseberry batch 1. It was the first release she worked on with him so with this second batch of Bruiseberry, he took it one step further. He put Bruiseberry b2 into a special barrel for their upcoming wedding. This barrel first held Elijah Craig 23 Yr Bourbon Barrel, then it held "Waxwing", our gold medal winning Boysenberry and Meadowfoam honey mead and finally Oui. In addition to Bruiseberry aging in Waxwing's barrel, Alex started adding additional vanilla beans every few days for every IG reel he made for social media. Oui sat in it's barrel all the way up until the week before the wedding for an entire year of aging.
Tammy had no idea that this mead was in existence up until Alex announced it to the entire wedding party that he had a special surpise for everyone: a bottle of Oui to commemorate our wedding as a wedding favor to our close friends and family.
Printed on heavier wine-stock, the label art for the bottle is meant to depict the moment of their engagement. In front of the clock, down on one knee, simultaneously stopping time while also asking for all the time in the world to spend together. The time on the clock is 5:05, or 5/05, the date of the wedding. The label even has a special adhesive that allows for it to come off easily for scrapbooking!
This bottle means so many things to us, on so many levels.
